Pune: Bopdev Ghat to Remain Closed for 7 Days, Traffic Advisory Issued, Alternate Routes Suggested
Bopdev Ghat on the Pune–Saswad route will remain closed to all traffic for seven days from January 8 to January 14 due to road widening and repair work. Check alternate routes and traffic updates.
Pune: In an important update for motorists, the Bopdev Ghat road connecting Pune with Saswad and Purandar will remain completely closed to all types of traffic for seven consecutive days, from Thursday, January 8 to Wednesday, January 14. The closure has been announced due to ongoing road repair and widening work.
According to the Public Works Department (PWD), the temporary shutdown is essential to ensure quality execution of the project and to maintain commuter safety. During this period, two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and all other vehicles will not be allowed to pass through Bopdev Ghat, even for one-way traffic.
Reason for Closure
PWD officials stated that major road widening and gravelling work is currently underway in the ghat section. To complete the work efficiently and safely, full closure of the road has been deemed necessary.
Alternate Routes for Commuters
To avoid inconvenience to daily commuters travelling between Pune, Saswad, and Purandar, the administration has advised the use of the following alternate routes:
- Dive Ghat route
- Via Narayanpur to Kapurhol or Chivewadi Ghat
Commuters are urged to plan their travel in advance and follow traffic advisories during the closure period.
Impact on Daily Travel
Bopdev Ghat is considered the shortest and fastest route for travel between Saswad, Purandar, and Pune. With the road closed for a week, thousands of daily commuters travelling for work, business, and medical needs are expected to face longer travel times. Residents of Kondhwa, Yewalewadi, and nearby areas heading towards Saswad will now have to take longer detours via Dive Ghat.
Appealing for public cooperation, Deven More, Branch Engineer, PWD (Haveli Division 2), said, “The road has been closed to ensure timely and high-quality completion of the work. We request commuters to cooperate and use alternate routes during this period.”
Motorists are advised to stay updated with local traffic alerts and avoid the Bopdev Ghat stretch until the work is completed.
