Pune | January 13, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to go to the polls on January 15, along with 28 other civic bodies across Maharashtra. As the largest municipal corporation in the state in terms of geographical area, the PMC elections will determine representatives for 165 seats in the civic body.

Eligible voters across Pune will cast their ballots to elect corporators from their respective administrative wards. The previous PMC election was conducted in 2017, and the elected council completed its five-year tenure in 2022. However, the civic polls were postponed from 2022 to 2026 following disputes related to ward reservations, which were challenged in the Supreme Court, leading to the prolonged delay in elections.

PMC Election 2026: Who Is Eligible to Vote?

To vote in the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, a person must be an Indian citizen aged 18 years or above. In addition, the voter must be a resident of Pune city and have their name included in the electoral roll of the ward where they reside.

Citizens who have recently shifted their residence within Pune city limits are advised to update their address in the electoral roll to ensure eligibility to vote in the correct ward.

PMC Elections 2026: Political Developments to Watch

The Pune civic elections are witnessing significant political realignments, including the formation of new alliances and the revival of an older one. The two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)—led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and by Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule—have announced a pre-poll alliance.

On Saturday, leaders from both factions held a joint press conference to unveil their manifesto, with Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule sharing the stage, signalling a united front for the PMC elections.

This political development comes against the backdrop of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) deciding to contest the municipal elections in alliance only with the Shiv Sena, despite Ajit Pawar’s NCP being part of the ruling alliance at the state level. The decision has added an extra layer of interest to what is shaping up to be a closely watched civic contest in Pune.

With polling just days away, voters are being urged to verify their electoral details in advance and participate actively in the democratic process that will shape Pune’s civic governance for the next five years.
