Pune, January 14, 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening women’s healthcare, the Maharashtra Public Health Department will launch dedicated menopause clinics across the state starting January 14. The initiative aims to provide structured, accessible and specialised care for women dealing with physical and mental health challenges associated with menopause.

The department has issued a statewide directive to district civil surgeons, district health officers and municipal health authorities, instructing them to set up special outpatient departments (OPDs) at government healthcare facilities. These menopause clinics will function once a week, every Wednesday.

According to health officials, the clinics are designed to offer comprehensive and scientific care tailored to the needs of menopausal women. Patients visiting these OPDs will undergo detailed medical assessments, and treatment plans will be customised based on individual symptoms.

Services at the clinics will include medical treatment, counselling support, nutritional and dietary guidance, lifestyle modification advice, and mental health care. Women will also receive information on calcium and vitamin D supplementation, along with recommendations for relevant diagnostic tests wherever required.

Many women hesitate to seek medical help for menopause-related issues due to lack of awareness or access to focused care. Dedicated menopause clinics are being introduced to bridge this gap and ensure women receive confidential and specialised treatment at public healthcare facilities.

As per the public health department’s order, these clinics will be established at all district hospitals, sub-district hospitals, municipal hospitals and selected rural hospitals across Maharashtra to ensure wide coverage.

The authorities also appealed to women to actively utilise the weekly OPD services and consult doctors without delay for menopause-related symptoms. He added that health authorities have been instructed to carry out extensive information, education and communication (IEC) campaigns to spread awareness about the availability and benefits of these clinics.

The initiative is expected to improve early diagnosis, management and overall quality of life for women undergoing menopause across the state.
