Pune, January 22, 2026: Newly elected corporator Raghavendra “Bappu” Mankar has resolved a major cleanliness issue in the SRA housing project at Hira Baug Housing Society within just 24 hours. To prevent garbage accumulation inside the building’s ducts, installation of protective wire meshes has begun across the building immediately after the end of the election code of conduct.

During the election campaign, residents of the building had brought the issue of garbage pile-up to Mankar’s attention, highlighting the severe inconvenience it caused. He had assured residents that the matter would be taken up on priority after the elections. Following through on that promise, Mankar personally visited the society yesterday to inspect the situation. As a permanent solution, it was decided to seal the garbage disposal spaces on every floor by installing meshes across the entire building. Within 24 hours of this decision, the work was officially launched.

Speaking to residents, Mankar assured that he would continue to monitor the work until the problem is fully resolved.

Due to large quantities of garbage accumulating inside the ducts, residents were facing foul odours and a rise in mosquito infestation, posing serious health concerns. Despite repeated cleaning, the waste kept returning, prompting the initiative to install meshes on every floor as a preventive measure.

Before beginning the installation work, the entire duct area was thoroughly cleaned. Over 600 mesh panels will be installed across all nine floors of the building. Alongside the physical work, residents will also be provided dustbins and guided about wet and dry waste segregation to prevent recurring issues.

Residents expressed their gratitude to Raghavendra Mankar for acting swiftly and fulfilling his assurance. The inspection and launch of the work was attended by society representatives including Shankar Taware, Sachin Mujumle, Sandeep Gaikwad, Santosh Watamkar, Pandurang Jawalkar, Datta Ingle, along with members and residents of the housing society.
