Pune, June 12, 2026: In a major crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, the South Mahalunge MIDC Police Station, in coordination with the State Excise Department and MIDC authorities, demolished six illegal country liquor sale centres operating within its jurisdiction in Khed Taluka of Pune district.

The action was carried out on June 11, 2026, as part of a special drive launched by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate to eradicate illegal country liquor manufacturing and sales. The campaign was initiated under the directions of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey.

According to police, repeated action had been taken against habitual offenders involved in the illicit liquor business. During the investigation, authorities found that several liquor-selling establishments had been constructed illegally. Following this, Senior Police Inspector Vijay Dhamal coordinated with MIDC officials to remove the unauthorized structures.

A joint operation involving the South Mahalunge MIDC Police, State Excise Department and MIDC authorities was subsequently conducted using JCB machines to permanently demolish the illegal liquor dens.

Six Illegal Liquor Dens Demolished

The demolished establishments were allegedly operated by

  1. Duresh Ramesh Rathod – Sigma Chowk, Mahalunge, Khed Taluka, Pune.
  2. Pushpadevi Shantilal Jat – Sigma Chowk, Mahalunge, Khed Taluka, Pune.
  3. Lakhan Jadja Shinde – Near Hindustan Petroleum Pump, Talawade Bridge, Nighoje, Khed Taluka.
  4. Lakhan Hajuriya Thakur – DK Chowk, Kuruli, Khed Taluka.
  5. Uday Ashok Kalal – Near HP Petrol Pump, Talawade Road, Nighoje, Khed Taluka.
  6. Sushmita Bandu Hitej – Subhashwadi, Nighoje, Khed Taluka.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Shweta Khedkar and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sachin Kadam. Teams from the South Mahalunge MIDC Police Station, the State Excise Department led by Police Inspector Divase, and MIDC officials participated in the drive.

Police officials stated that the demolition of all six unauthorized liquor sale centres marks a significant step in the ongoing campaign to curb illegal liquor activities and maintain law and order in the region.
