Pune: Oil Spill Due To Garbage Vehicle In Lulla Nagar Leads To Accident; Citizens Demand Action From PMC And Traffic Police
Pune, January 24, 2026: A serious public safety incident at Lullanagar, opposite Motherhood Hospital, triggered strong concerns on Saturday morning after an oil and greasy waste spill on the main road caused a two-wheeler crash, injuring a woman rider. The accident, reported around 8 am on January 24, 2026, has prompted citizens to demand accountability from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune Traffic Police.
In a formal complaint submitted by Raj Singh, Founder of the Sikh Helpline Foundation, to the Kondhwa–Bibwewadi Ward Office of PMC and marked to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune, residents have demanded swift corrective action. The complaint seeks an investigation to identify the responsible vehicle and contractor, thorough cleaning of the road by the PMC Road Department, and strict punitive action against the driver or agency involved for failing to secure hazardous waste during transit.
According to eyewitnesses, the spill reportedly occurred due to a passing garbage collection van that allegedly discharged hotel waste mixed with oil onto the road surface. The stretch quickly became dangerously slippery, causing vehicles to skid. One woman motorist suffered severe injuries after losing balance and falling due to the slick surface.
Local residents and volunteers stepped in to avoid further mishaps by spreading sand on the affected stretch. Their timely intervention temporarily stabilized the situation until authorities could respond. However, citizens have raised strong objections to the circumstances that led to the spill, calling it a case of negligence in waste handling and transportation.
The letter also highlights that essential public safety cannot rely solely on voluntary citizen efforts and urges authorities to enforce proper waste transport protocols to prevent future accidents. Further updates on action taken by PMC and the Traffic Department are awaited.
