Baramati, Maharashtra: Senior Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Sharad Pawar, along with Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar, reached Baramati on Wednesday, hours after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a tragic plane crash in Pune district.

Ajit Pawar, 66, was among five people killed when the aircraft carrying them crashed near Baramati on Wednesday morning. The plane was en route from Mumbai and was approaching Baramati when the accident occurred. Pawar was travelling to attend public meetings as part of the campaign for the February 5 Zilla Parishad elections in Maharashtra.
According to official sources, Ajit Pawar’s last rites will be performed on Thursday at the Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati with full state honours. Vidya Pratishthan’s Institute of Information Technology in Vidyanagri, Baramati, was founded by Sharad Pawar and holds deep personal and political significance for the Pawar family.
