Pune To Remain Shut On January 29 As Traders Mourn Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s Demise
Pune, January 28, 2026: All traders’ establishments across Pune will remain closed for the entire day on Thursday, January 29, 2026, as a mark of respect following the sudden and tragic demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune’s Guardian Minister, Ajitdada Pawar.
The decision was announced by the Federation of Trade Associations of Pune (FTAP), also known as the Pune Vyapari Mahasangh. The traders’ body said the passing of Ajit Pawar has caused deep sorrow among the business community, describing the loss as an irreparable one for both Maharashtra and Pune.
In a statement, FTAP said Ajit Pawar was a committed, forthright, and influential leader who worked tirelessly in public service. Throughout his political career, he played a key role in the state’s development, focusing on administrative efficiency and consistently addressing issues related to industry, business, and the trading community.
The traders’ association highlighted Pawar’s significant contribution to the development of Pune city and district, particularly in strengthening infrastructure, boosting the economy, and safeguarding trade and commercial interests. His efforts, the association said, will be remembered for years to come.
Expressing condolences, the Pune Vyapari Mahasangh extended heartfelt sympathies to Ajit Pawar’s family, relatives, and supporters. The association also prayed for strength for his family and followers to cope with the loss.
As a tribute to the late leader, the association has appealed to all traders in Pune to keep their shops closed for the full day on January 29, observing a complete shutdown in the city’s commercial areas.
