Pune: Purandar Airport Project Gets Push As CM Fadnavis Sets Clear Timelines For Land And Funding
Mumbai, February 4, 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis chaired a high-level review meeting in Mumbai to assess the progress of the proposed Purandar airport project in Pune, underscoring its strategic importance for the city’s next phase of growth.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to accelerate the development of the airport by factoring in Pune’s rapidly expanding investment landscape, industrial activity, and urbanisation. He stressed that the project must be planned in line with the city’s long-term infrastructure and economic needs.
Fadnavis instructed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to complete the land acquisition process within a fixed timeline and asked officials to finalise a clear funding mechanism for the airport’s development. He also directed CIDCO and the Urban Development Department to clearly define their roles, with CIDCO being responsible for ensuring land availability. The area surrounding the airport is expected to emerge as a future development zone, he noted.
The Chief Minister further asked authorities to strengthen the capacity of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADCL) and to entrust all ongoing airport projects in the state to the agency. Officials have been asked to place a detailed proposal on the funding mechanism for the Purandar airport before the next state cabinet meeting.
Once completed, the Purandar airport is expected to significantly boost industrial growth in Pune and adjoining regions, while generating large-scale economic and employment opportunities for local communities.
