Pune Hit And Run: BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla’s Mother Seriously Injured By Car
Pune | February 4, 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Tuesday said that his mother was seriously injured in an alleged hit-and-run incident in Pune and is scheduled to undergo surgery.
In a post on X, Poonawalla alleged that the incident was deliberate and appealed to the Pune City Police and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to ensure swift action against the accused.
“A few hours ago, an extremely disgusting human being deliberately ran his car over my mother, leaving her seriously injured, and fled the scene. She will be undergoing surgery very soon. Kindly pray for her,” Poonawalla wrote. Expressing anguish, he added that the incident had deeply shaken him and urged the authorities to ensure the accused does not escape justice.
His brother, Tehseen Poonawalla, also shared CCTV footage of the incident on social media, alleging that their mother, a senior citizen, was intentionally targeted. According to Tehseen, she had stepped out of the car and was waiting by the roadside while their driver and executive assistant were refuelling the vehicle when a car struck her and sped away.
In a subsequent update, Tehseen said he had spoken to senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). He confirmed that their mother would need hip surgery and would require a rod for the rest of her life.
Describing the incident as “infuriating and heartbreaking,” he said it was unclear whether the act was deliberate or whether the driver chose to flee after hitting an elderly woman.
Police are yet to release further details, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
