Cockroach Found in Chicken Biryani at Pune’s Camp-Based Persian Darbar, Customer Files Complaint
Pune: A customer has alleged finding a cockroach inside a biryani plate ordered at Persian Darbar, a well-known Camp outlet raising questions over food safety standards.
A shocking food safety complaint has surfaced in Pune after a customer claimed they found a cockroach inside a chicken biryani ordered at a food outlet in the Camp area.
According to the complainant, Faiz Shaikh, the incident took place on February 6, 2026, when he and some friends placed an order for chicken biryani from Persian Darbar, Camp. While eating the meal, the customer allegedly discovered a cockroach in the biryani plate, leaving them “shocked and disgusted”.
The customer said the incident has raised serious concerns about hygiene practices, food safety, and potential public health risks, especially as the outlet is a popular choice among diners in the city.
“I found a cockroach inside my biryani plate while eating. This incident raises concerns about hygiene standards, food safety, and public health,” the complainant stated. What is more disturbing is the way the issue was handled. “The restaurant people were extremely rude and blamed us instead of helping solve the issue”, an obviously disturbed Faiz Shaikh described, while insisting that he doesn’t have any personal grudge against restaurant staff or anyone, he is just concerned about health and safety.
The customer further claimed they have clear photo and video evidence of the cockroach found in the food. They also alleged that CCTV footage has captured the incident.

Despite contacting the restaurant, the complainant said there has been no responsible response or accountability from the outlet so far. A local complaint has been filed with the police against the restaurant.
Food safety incidents such as these often draw attention to the importance of strict hygiene compliance in commercial kitchens, especially for outlets handling high volumes of takeaway and delivery orders. Consumers have repeatedly urged stronger inspections and quicker grievance redressal mechanisms when such complaints arise.
A formal complaint will be registered by the consumers with the Food Safety and Standards Department on Monday, as soon the Moshi office opens.
Disclaimer: The claims are based on the customer’s complaint and supporting evidence shared by them. The restaurant has denied responsibility, and further verification by authorities is awaited.
