22-Year-Old Indian-Origin Student Found Dead in US After Six Days Missing
A 22-year-old Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, who had been missing in the United States since February 9, has been found dead, the Consulate General of India, San Francisco confirmed on Sunday.
Saketh, a postgraduate student at University of California, Berkeley, hailed from Tumakuru in Karnataka. He was last seen near a lake at Tilden Regional Park before his disappearance. Local police later recovered his body.
In a statement, the Consulate expressed deep condolences to the family and said it is coordinating with authorities and assisting in the repatriation of the mortal remains to India. Officials added that consular officers are in direct contact with the family and will help complete all required formalities.
Saketh’s father had last spoken to him on February 9, after which roommates reported him untraceable and filed a complaint with the Berkeley Police Department. The Karnataka government had also requested support from the Ministry of External Affairs.
Saketh was pursuing a Master of Science in Product Development at UC Berkeley and had earlier completed his BTech in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
