No-Surge Rides At Pune Airport As AAI Partners With Bharat Taxi; Fixed Fares And Shorter Waits Expected
Pune: In a move aimed at improving last-mile connectivity, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bharat Taxi to introduce a surge-free, fixed-fare taxi service at Pune Airport. The agreement was signed on February 5 and will initially cover 11 airports nationwide, including Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
The app-based service was formally launched by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar said the initiative follows Central Government directives to provide safe, transparent and affordable transport options for air passengers.
Operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and promoted by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), Bharat Taxi works on a driver-owned cooperative model. Unlike aggregator platforms, it promises fixed pricing without surge charges, even during peak hours.
Frequent flyers in Pune have welcomed the initiative, citing relief from unpredictable fares and frequent driver strikes. Under the cooperative model, drivers retain earnings after operational costs, ensuring better income security while passengers benefit from transparent billing.
The move is expected to provide a reliable alternative to private ride-hailing platforms operating at Pune Airport.
