Pune, February 23, 2026: A massive fire incident in the Yerwada area of Pune on Monday afternoon triggered panic across the city after nearly 60 vehicles parked in an open ground were gutted in a devastating blaze. The fire broke out around 12:30 pm near the Land Records Office area, engulfing vehicles within minutes and creating thick plumes of smoke visible from a distance.
According to preliminary information, the open plot was being used to park a large number of vehicles, including police-seized vehicles and others kept for parking purposes. The fire spread rapidly, resulting in around 40 two-wheelers and 20 four-wheelers being completely destroyed. Several vehicles caught fire one after another, intensifying the blaze and causing chaos in the surrounding locality.
Fire Brigade Rushes to Spot
As soon as the incident was reported, multiple fire tenders from the Yerwada Fire Station and the Pune Municipal Corporation Fire Department rushed to the scene. Firefighters immediately began dousing the flames with water jets. After hours of continuous efforts, the fire was finally brought under control. However, by then, most of the vehicles had been completely reduced to ashes.
Expensive Cars Among Burnt Vehicles
While no casualties have been reported, authorities have confirmed major financial losses. Several high-end four-wheelers were among the burnt vehicles, raising the possibility that the total damage could run into several lakhs of rupees.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
The exact cause of the fire is still unclear. Officials are probing whether the blaze was triggered by a short circuit, flammable materials, or any other technical reason. Police and fire department teams have conducted a spot inspection and prepared a panchnama. The investigation is also being carried out using CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
Tense Situation in Yerwada Area
Following the incident, a tense atmosphere prevailed in the Yerwada locality for some time as a large number of residents gathered at the site. Police deployed additional security and managed the crowd to maintain law and order. Authorities have assured that the investigation is ongoing and the exact cause of the fire will be determined soon.
