Pune City Traffic Police To Roll Out Google Maps-Based ‘Trafficure’ For Real-Time Traffic Monitoring
Pune, February 24, 2026: In a bid to streamline vehicular movement and tackle congestion more effectively, the Pune City Traffic Police is set to introduce a new traffic management system named ‘Trafficure’, developed with support from Google Maps integration.
Officials said the software will provide live updates on traffic flow across major roads, including details on congestion, slow-moving vehicles, and emerging bottlenecks. The system is designed to enable traffic personnel to monitor road conditions in real time and respond swiftly to ease pressure on busy stretches.
Beyond immediate congestion management, the platform will also help authorities pinpoint accident-prone locations and intersections where traffic snarls occur frequently. By analysing live inputs from Google Maps, the department aims to deploy staff more strategically and regulate traffic in a coordinated manner.
For better monitoring, key roads across the city have been divided into 550 segments for data collection and assessment. The system underwent a 45-day pilot phase during January and February, during which the average vehicle speed on prominent routes was recorded at approximately 26.8 kmph.
Following the trial run, a comprehensive project presentation was made at the Pune Police Commissionerate. Senior officials expressed confidence that adopting the technology-driven approach will help reduce congestion levels and improve overall road safety for commuters in the city.
