Pre-Dawn Highway Crash Between Truck and Bus Near Katraj Leaves Truck Driver Dead, Several Passengers Injured
Pune: A major accident occurred around 4 am on the highway in the Katraj Ghat area while the city was still asleep. The incident took place between Jambhulwadi Valley Bridge as a truck loaded with iron pipes and rods rammed into a bus from behind while travelling from Katraj Tunnel towards Navale Bridge. The impact was so severe that the front cabin of the truck was completely crushed.
Four to five passengers in the bus sustained minor injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said the truck driver, who suffered serious injuries, died during treatment.
Meanwhile, rescue operations were hampered as the truck cleaner got trapped inside the mangled cabin along with the iron rods. Fire brigade personnel used cutters and continued efforts to extricate him safely.
Police, fire brigade teams and officials from the National Highways Authority reached the spot soon after the accident. The crash led to heavy traffic congestion on the highway, with long queues of vehicles seen even during the early morning hours.
Police have launched a further investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
