“Hum log ka kya hoga?”: Aamir Khan Plays Chess, Flies Kites, Eats on the Floor at Arijit Singh’s Bengal Home in BTS Video
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently spent a heartwarming day at Arijit Singh’s home in Murshidabad, capturing candid moments that fans are now cherishing online. The visit came soon after Arijit stunned everyone by announcing his retirement from playback singing in Hindi films. The video, showing Aamir enjoying simple pleasures with the singer, offers a rare glimpse of the friendship and respect between the two icons.
During the recording of the title track for Junaid Khan’s upcoming film Ek Din, Aamir sat on the floor with Arijit and gently questioned his decision to step away from films. He asked, “You are not taking on any projects? For sometime you want to take a break? Or you want to not sing for Hindi films? Aise mat kar yaar, hum log ka kya hoga bhai?” (Don’t do this? What will happen to us?). Arijit responded with a warm smile, keeping the moment heartfelt yet light.
The behind-the-scenes video shows the duo flying kites with their team, greeting neighbours who gathered to catch a glimpse of Aamir, and enjoying tea and home-cooked meals together. One of the most memorable moments captures Aamir sitting cross-legged on the floor, enjoying food served by Arijit, highlighting the simplicity and warmth of their meeting. They also played chess with the singer’s team and even went on a late-night scooty ride, showcasing a playful and relaxed side rarely seen by the public.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Aamir mentioned that while his visit wasn’t primarily to convince Arijit to continue playback singing, he did try to persuade him. “I wasn’t there specifically to convince him not to quit singing for films, but I did try my best. Unfortunately, he seems to have made up his mind,” he said. He further praised Arijit’s talent and described the time spent with him, his family, and the team as “memorable.”
Fans flooded social media with their reactions to the video. One fan wrote, “What a beautiful song and a wholesome video.” Another commented, “Arijit Singh, only one singer polite, downward, very innocent. I love Arijit Singh.” Yet another praised the singer’s humility and simplicity, saying, “Arijit has proved how simplicity still works… Every artist should learn from this. Fake tone, hurting others doesn’t work. Respect everyone in your group.”
Arijit’s official retirement announcement on January 27 had left fans in shock. He wrote, “Hello. Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it quits. It was a wonderful journey.”
