Government Alerts District Authorities As Tanker Drivers’ Union Threatens Indefinite Strike From March 5

Mumbai, March 5, 2026: The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department of the Government of Maharashtra has issued an urgent directive to district administrations and police authorities across the state following a warning of an indefinite strike by the Republican Truck-Tanker Driver and Cleaner Union, Maharashtra, beginning March 5, 2026.
According to the official communication issued from the state secretariat in Mumbai, the union has threatened to halt operations indefinitely. If the strike takes place, it may severely disrupt the distribution of essential petroleum products such as LPG, petrol, diesel, CNG, and kerosene across the state.
The letter, signed by Ashok Atram, Deputy Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, has been addressed to all District Collectors, Police Commissioners, District Superintendents of Police, the Controller of Rationing and Director of Civil Supplies in Mumbai, as well as Deputy Commissioners of Supply and District Supply Officers.
Authorities have been instructed to remain vigilant and ensure that no untoward incidents occur during this period. The government has also directed officials to take preventive measures to maintain law and order and avoid any disruption to the supply of essential commodities.
District administrations have been asked to hold discussions with the union representatives and concerned organizations in an effort to persuade them not to proceed with the strike. The government emphasized that any disruption in the supply chain of fuel and cooking gas could lead to major inconvenience for citizens.
Officials have also been instructed to report the actions taken in this matter to the state government at the earliest.
The directive follows a letter dated March 2, 2026, from the State-Level Coordinator of the Oil Industry in Maharashtra regarding the potential strike.
