₹8.71 Crore Hydroponic Marijuana Seized At Pune Airport; Five Arrested
Pune, March 10, 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, officials of the Air Intelligence Unit seized hydroponic marijuana worth approximately ₹8.71 crore at Pune International Airport. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to officials, the seizure took place on March 9 when four passengers arrived in Pune from Bangkok on an IndiGo flight (6E-1096). Acting on profiling and suspicion, officers from the Air Intelligence Unit intercepted the passengers for inspection.
During the search of their hand baggage, officials discovered hydroponic marijuana concealed in 16 airtight packets. The total quantity of the seized contraband was approximately 8,710 grams. Authorities estimate the value of the narcotics at around ₹8.71 crore in the illegal market.
In addition to the four passengers, another individual who had arrived at the airport to collect them and the contraband was also taken into custody.
All five accused have been arrested and booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the wider network and possible links to international drug trafficking.
