Pune: Oakwoods Society In Viman Nagar Inaugurates 40 kW Solar Power Plant For Sustainable Energy
Pune, March 16, 2026: Oakwoods Co‑operative Housing Society Ltd. in Viman Nagar has inaugurated a 40 kW solar power plant to power its common amenities, marking a step toward sustainable energy adoption in residential communities.
The solar facility was inaugurated in the presence of Aishwarya Surendra Pathare, corporator from Ward 3 of the Pune Municipal Corporation, along with residents of the society.
According to the society’s management, the plant, installed by Tata Power, is expected to generate around 5,500 units of electricity per month. The electricity will be used to operate common facilities such as lifts, water pumps, and common lighting, which will help significantly reduce the society’s electricity expenses.
The project was implemented through an innovative financial model. The society utilized funds from its existing Fixed Deposits to install the solar plant and has started a Recurring Deposit equivalent to its earlier monthly electricity expenditure to replenish the amount used. With the savings generated from solar power, the society expects to recover the project cost within approximately two years.
Speaking on the initiative, Society Secretary Mohit Naphade said the project represents a collective effort by residents to adopt greener solutions while ensuring long-term financial and environmental benefits. Chairman Rohan Rane and Treasurer Shriram Deshpande also appreciated the support of residents in making the project a reality.
The initiative highlights a growing trend among housing societies in Pune that are increasingly turning to renewable energy solutions to reduce electricity costs and lower their carbon footprint.
