Maharashtra, March 22: Weather conditions across Maharashtra continue to fluctuate sharply, with a combination of rising heat and unseasonal rain creating a dual weather concern. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for several regions, warning of changing conditions over the next few days.
Unseasonal rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hail has impacted parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada over the past few days. At the same time, temperatures have surged close to 40°C in several districts, intensifying heatwave-like conditions.
For March 22, the IMD has indicated a temporary relief, with both heatwave intensity and rainfall activity expected to reduce slightly across the state.
In the coastal Konkan belt, the threat of unseasonal rain has receded for now. However, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail. A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai and surrounding areas, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 30°C and 34°C, alongside rising humidity levels.
In Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune, Satara, and Ahmednagar, weather conditions are expected to remain largely dry on Sunday. However, isolated light to moderate rainfall may occur in Solapur, Sangli, and Kolhapur, accompanied by winds blowing at 30–40 km/h. Temperatures will likely hover between 32°C and 36°C.
Northern Maharashtra, including Nashik, is expected to witness dry weather with no significant alerts. A gradual rise in temperatures is anticipated over the next few days.
In Marathwada, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, conditions will remain mostly dry, although isolated light rain with lightning may occur in Latur and Dharashiv. Maximum temperatures are expected between 34°C and 38°C.
Vidarbha, including Nagpur, has recently witnessed intense hailstorms and thunderstorms, causing damage to crops in several districts. While Sunday is expected to remain dry with temperatures between 35°C and 38°C, the IMD has warned that unseasonal rain activity may intensify again from March 24.
Overall, while no major alerts have been issued for March 22, residents are likely to experience rising heat and occasional isolated showers. Authorities have advised citizens and farmers to remain cautious as weather conditions are expected to shift again from March 23 onward, with an increase in thunderstorm activity.
