Pune, March 23, 2026:
Residents of Undri and Mohamadwadi attended a public hearing held by the Town Planning Department of the Maharashtra government on Monday, raising strong objections to a proposed Garbage Processing Plant (GPP) in the area. The hearing on the draft Development Plan (DP) was conducted in Koregaon Park.
Citizens opposed the proposed GPP at Sheet No. 13 (Survey No. 4/21) in Undri near Nyati Windchimes society, stating that the location is not suitable as it is surrounded by residential societies, schools, and green spaces. They expressed concerns about pollution, poor air quality, and health risks if the waste processing plant is set up in the locality.
The objections were submitted by the Mohammadwadi–Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF), which represents more than 50 housing societies in December 2025. The group urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to shift the project to a non-residential area.
During the hearing, residents also demanded that the plot be reserved for a green zone instead of a garbage facility. They suggested developing a forest area, public park, butterfly garden, or a sports and recreation space to improve the environment and increase green cover in the fast-growing area.
As per the representation, over 3,250 residents from more than 15 housing societies and around 6,350 students from nearby schools are located within a 1-km radius of the proposed site. An Armed Forces ECHS facility and an old age home are also situated close to the location.
Sunil Koloti, along with over 45 members of the Foundation & Residents of the location, submitted the representation to officials. The committee acknowledged the concerns and responded positively, indicating that the GPP could be shifted to another location.
