Major Relief For Pune Traffic: Elevated Highway Plan Approved For Talegaon–Chakan Industrial Belt
Pune, March 25, 2026: In a significant move to ease traffic congestion in one of the region’s busiest industrial corridors, authorities have approved a comprehensive infrastructure plan for the Talegaon–Chakan stretch. The decision is expected to bring major relief to commuters and industries operating in the area.
The Talegaon–Chakan belt is a key industrial hub in Pune district, with numerous small and large companies operating under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Rapid industrial growth over the past few years has led to severe traffic congestion, prompting long-standing demands for infrastructure upgrades.
To address the issue, the government has cleared the construction of a four-lane elevated highway along with a parallel four-lane road between Talegaon and Chakan. In addition, a separate four-lane parallel highway will be developed on the Chakan–Shikrapur stretch.
Officials believe that once completed, the project will significantly reduce traffic congestion in the Chakan industrial area, where increasing vehicular movement has put considerable pressure on existing road infrastructure.
The proposal received approval during a meeting of the state cabinet’s infrastructure committee. Devendra Fadnavis directed that the project be executed with strict adherence to quality standards and completed within the stipulated timeline.
The development of the Talegaon–Chakan (National Highway 548D) stretch, covering approximately 0 to 26 km, will include both an elevated corridor and a parallel road. Meanwhile, the 26 to 43 km stretch from Chakan to Shikrapur will see the construction of a four-lane parallel highway.
The project will be implemented under the Design, Finance, Build, Operate, and Transfer (DFBOT) model, with an estimated cost of ₹4,207 crore. The contract for execution has been awarded to Monte Carlo Limited.
Authorities expect that this large-scale infrastructure upgrade will not only streamline traffic flow but also boost connectivity and support continued industrial growth in the region.
