Commuters should prepare for major disruptions on Mumbai’s suburban railway network this Sunday. Maintenance and engineering work will lead to blocks on the Central Railway’s main and Trans-Harbor lines, as well as on the Western Railway, impacting local train services across multiple routes. Passengers are advised to plan alternate travel.

On the Central Railway’s main line, slow trains between Matunga and Mulund will be affected from 11:05 AM to 3:55 PM. During this period, trains departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) between 10:14 AM and 3:32 PM will be diverted to fast tracks, meaning stations like Vidyavihar, Kanjur Marg, and Nahur will not have local train services.

The Trans-Harbor line will see a complete shutdown between Thane and Vashi/Nerul from 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM, halting all trains in both directions.

On the Western Railway, a 19-hour block will be in place between Kandivli and Borivali for the re-girdering of Bridge No. 61, from Saturday 10:30 PM to Sunday 7:30 PM. As a result, about 300 local trains—45 on Saturday and 254 on Sunday—will be canceled. Trains will not operate from Borivali station platforms 1 and 2 during this time.

The block will also help accelerate several ongoing infrastructure projects. Key works planned by the railway authorities include:

Harbour Line Extension: Installation of PSC slabs and ballast retainers on Bridge No. 56A between Malad and Kandivali, an important step toward extending the Harbour Line all the way to Borivali.

Kandivali Deck Construction: Placement of a girder for one of the deck spans (C16–C17) on Platform 1 at Kandivali station.

Early Morning Girder Launch: Another major activity involves launching a girder deck span between piers C16 and C17 on Platform 1, scheduled between 2:00 AM and 7:30 AM on the same day.

These works are part of ongoing efforts to improve capacity, safety, and service efficiency across the network. Commuters on all routes are strongly advised to check train schedules in advance and plan alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.
