Pune, March 27, 2026: A Pune-based customer has raised serious allegations against EatClub after claiming he was served a non-vegetarian dish instead of a vegetarian meal, calling it a “grave violation of consumer trust and food safety.”

According to the complaint filed by Varun Kulkarni, the incident took place following an order placed at an EatClub outlet in Kharadi. Kulkarni stated that he had ordered a vegetarian “Paneer Makhani All-in-1 Meal” worth ₹299 but was allegedly delivered butter chicken instead.

“Not Just A Delivery Error”

In his formal complaint, Kulkarni described the incident as more than a routine mix-up, stating that he unknowingly consumed non-vegetarian food for the first time in his life due to improper packaging and labeling.

He claimed the incident caused “emotional distress, religious hurt, and mental trauma,” adding that vegetarian dietary practices in India are often closely tied to personal beliefs and values.

Refund Rejected, Compensation Demanded

Kulkarni said the company offered a refund of ₹219, which he rejected, calling it “inadequate” given the seriousness of the issue. He has demanded a formal apology, a detailed explanation of how the error occurred, and monetary compensation for the distress caused.

He further alleged lapses in food handling, labeling, and quality control, and accused the company of failing to maintain clear distinctions between vegetarian and non-vegetarian items.

Legal Action Warning

The complainant has issued a 48-hour notice to the company, warning that he will escalate the matter to authorities such as the National Consumer Helpline and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India if a satisfactory response is not received.

He also indicated that he may pursue legal remedies under consumer protection laws and raise the issue on public platforms.

The company has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
