Pune, April 7, 2026: In a move aimed at tackling traffic congestion and unregulated roadside parking, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to introduce a ‘Pay and Park’ system across key areas of the city. The proposal, which had been pending for several years, is now gaining momentum after receiving responses to fresh tenders.

According to civic officials, bids have been received for four out of the five proposed locations, indicating renewed interest in implementing the long-delayed project. Once approved by the standing committee, the plan will make it mandatory for motorists to pay for parking on selected busy roads.

The proposed locations include major and high-traffic stretches such as Laxmi Road, Jangli Maharaj Road, Fergusson College Road (FC Road), Balewadi High Street, and key roads in Viman Nagar. These areas currently face significant issues due to unauthorized and haphazard parking.

Under the new system, two-wheeler parking is expected to cost around ₹10 per hour, while four-wheeler owners may be charged approximately ₹20 per hour. The charges are likely to be applicable for about 14 hours daily.

The ‘Pay and Park’ initiative was originally approved nearly seven years ago but could not be implemented due to administrative and political hurdles. Officials believe that introducing regulated paid parking will help ease congestion and bring better discipline to on-street parking across Pune.
