Pune, April 7, 2026: Representatives of the Pune Rural Railway Passengers Association met Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajesh Kumar Verma to discuss key commuter concerns and push for improvements in railway services across the Pune, Daund, and Baramati sections.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the need for punctual operation of existing DMU local trains to help daily commuters, particularly those traveling for work and business. They also strongly demanded the introduction of EMU local services between Daund and Pune, with an extension up to Lonavala, considering the rising passenger load.

The association further raised the issue of granting suburban status to Daund. It was stated that the state government has shown a positive stance on the proposal, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has written to the Railway Ministry recommending that the Daund route be officially declared a suburban corridor. They urged authorities to expedite further action on this matter.

Concerns regarding passenger safety were also discussed, with a demand for dedicated coaches for women and differently-abled passengers. The association called for these facilities to be introduced at the earliest and formally notified.

Looking ahead, the group pointed out that the upcoming Hadapsar–Yavat flyover project is likely to put additional pressure on road traffic. To ease congestion, they stressed the need to increase local train services as an alternative mode of transport. They also demanded the introduction of a new local train between Daund and Pune during peak hours, from 8:25 AM to 5:00 PM, or alternative arrangements if this is not feasible.

Railway officials assured the delegation that the demands would be considered positively, emphasizing their commitment to improving commuter safety and convenience.
