Pune: Proposal Seeks Nod For Corporators To Fund Works In Private Housing Societies
Pune: PMC Sets Up Joint Panel To Strengthen Revenue And Meet ₹15,669 Crore Budget Target
Pune, April 9, 2026: A proposal has been submitted before the Pune Municipal Corporation City Improvement Committee seeking permission for corporators to undertake development works in private housing societies using funds allocated under the ‘C’ list.
The proposal, moved by BJP corporators Prasanna Jagtap and Sandeep Beldare, aims to extend basic civic amenities to residents of private housing societies, offering relief to taxpayers who currently bear the cost of such infrastructure independently.
At present, corporators in Pune are allocated significant funds under the ‘C’ list for development works. However, in many central parts of the city, there is limited scope for new projects, often leading to repetitive works. Concerns have also been raised in the past over alleged irregularities, including duplicate or unnecessary works being shown for billing purposes.
The proposal draws inspiration from a state government decision that allowed MLAs to utilize their development funds for certain works within private housing societies. On similar lines, corporators are now seeking permission to use ‘C’ list funds for providing essential infrastructure such as drainage systems, water storage facilities, and internal roads within societies in their respective wards.
Pune has a large number of private housing societies where residents regularly pay property taxes. Despite this, societies often have to incur significant expenses for basic amenities. In many cases, residents are forced to raise additional contributions when maintenance funds fall short.
The issue has been raised multiple times in the general body meetings of the civic body, but permissions for such works have not been granted so far. With this fresh proposal now before the committee, attention is on the administration and ruling members regarding the decision they will take.
