A fire incident at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport triggered panic on Thursday evening after flames and thick smoke were reported from Terminal 1 in the Vile Parle area.
According to preliminary information, the fire broke out around 6 pm inside Terminal 1, leading to chaos at one of the busiest airports in the world. Emergency response teams, including airport fire services and the Mumbai Fire Brigade, rushed to the spot and began firefighting operations on a war footing.
Initial reports suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. Authorities immediately suspended movement at Terminal 1 as a precautionary measure, significantly impacting airport operations for nearly an hour. Passengers were safely evacuated from the affected areas to ensure their safety.
Senior officials confirmed that the fire originated in the cable tray and switch box area inside the terminal. Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar stated that the situation was brought under control promptly, and efforts to fully extinguish the fire were underway.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported in the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire.
