Heatwave Alert Issued Across Maharashtra; Citizens Urged To Take Precautions
Mumbai, April 16, 2026: A heatwave warning has been issued across Maharashtra by the India Meteorological Department, with temperatures expected to rise significantly in the coming days. The State Emergency Operations Centre Maharashtra has urged citizens to take necessary precautions to stay safe.
According to an official release, hot weather conditions are likely to prevail in different regions over the next few days. Central Maharashtra may experience intense heat from April 15 to 18, Marathwada from April 16 to 18, Vidarbha from April 15 to 19, and Konkan from April 15 to 17, with some areas also facing hot and humid conditions.
Advisory for Citizens:
Residents have been advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and ORS, wear light and loose clothing, and use protective gear such as hats or umbrellas when stepping outdoors. Authorities recommend staying indoors as much as possible, resting in shaded areas, and taking extra care of vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly.
People are also advised to avoid going out between 12 noon and 4 pm, limit consumption of alcohol and caffeinated beverages, and avoid strenuous physical activity during peak heat hours. Leaving children or animals inside parked vehicles in the sun has been strongly discouraged.
Preparedness Measures:
The administration has been directed to ensure the availability of drinking water at public places, implement district-level Heat Action Plans, and maintain adequate medical supplies in hospitals. Schools may be issued advisories, including possible changes in timings, while awareness campaigns will be conducted through the media.
Special Instructions:
Organisers of public gatherings have been asked to arrange shade, drinking water, and medical support, including ORS. Workers, farmers, and those engaged in outdoor activities are advised to work during early morning or evening hours, take frequent breaks, and remain alert to symptoms of heatstroke.
The State Emergency Operations Centre has appealed to citizens, local bodies, and industries to follow these guidelines to minimise risks during the heatwave.
