Pune: Eviction Drive In Gultekdi Slum Sparks Protests As Residents Question Action Amid Court Case
Pune, April 17, 2026: An ongoing eviction drive in the Gultekdi area has triggered strong protests among slum residents, who have questioned the administration’s decision to proceed with action while the matter is still pending in court.
Residents have alleged that the demolition drive was carried out in the presence of police despite the case being sub judice. The move has led to heightened tensions in the area, with locals expressing anger over what they describe as hasty and insensitive action.
According to residents, several families have been living in the settlement for decades, with some claiming a history of over a century at the site. They also stated that many occupants possess relevant documents supporting their stay, raising concerns over the legitimacy of the eviction.
Amid the operation, some citizens also alleged that attempts were made to use children to create pressure on officials and police personnel, further complicating the situation and escalating tensions on the ground.
Authorities, however, maintained that the action is being conducted as per rules and regulations. Officials clarified that since the matter is under judicial consideration, any further steps will be taken in accordance with court directives.
The incident has once again brought the issue of slum rehabilitation and administrative action into focus, with the standoff between residents and authorities drawing attention across the city.
