Pune, April 18, 2026: The Pune Traffic Police have introduced temporary traffic restrictions and diversions in the central part of the city on Sunday in view of Akshaya Tritiya celebrations and a special mango festival organised at the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple.

Authorities anticipate heavy footfall in and around the temple area throughout the day, which is likely to cause congestion on key roads including Shivaji Road, Laxmi Road, and Ganesh Road. To manage the expected rush and ensure public safety, traffic movement in these areas will be regulated from 7 am until the crowd reduces.

As part of the arrangements, vehicles approaching from major junctions such as Appa Balwant Chowk, S.G. Barve Chowk, and Jijamata Chowk will be diverted through alternative routes. Certain stretches close to the temple will have restricted access for regular traffic to ease pedestrian movement.

Public transport services, including PMPML buses passing through the old city area, will also operate on modified routes to avoid congestion near the temple premises.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav has urged citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel and avoid non-essential travel in the affected zones. He also advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance, as traffic flow in the city’s core areas is expected to remain slow for most of the day.

Officials said the measures are temporary and will be lifted once the situation returns to normal.
