PMRDA has taken a key step for its proposed ring road project by finalising land rates in three villages, bringing the long-awaited plan closer to execution.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has finalised land rates in Solu, Wadgaon Shinde and Nirgude villages for its proposed ring road project. The district administration has also submitted a proposal for direct land acquisition, marking significant progress for the major infrastructure plan.

The proposed PMRDA ring road is aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Pune city and surrounding areas. The internal ring road project is planned as an 83-km route with a width of 65 metres.

Officials said the project is expected to require nearly 700 to 750 acres of land. With land pricing now fixed in three villages, the acquisition process is likely to move faster in the first phase.

As per the approved figures, around 34.65 hectares of land in Solu, 5.71 hectares in Wadgaon Shinde and 1.44 hectares in Nirgude are expected to be acquired initially. Landowners may receive compensation either through direct cash payment or Transferable Development Rights (TDR), depending on the final framework.

In total, approximately 92.25 hectares of land from 11 villages is expected to be acquired for the larger project. These villages include Ambegaon, Pisoli, Wadachiwadi, Kadamwak Vasti, Kolwadi, Jambhulwadi, Manjari Khurd, Bhilarewadi, Mangadewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi and Yewalewadi.

The PMRDA ring road is expected to connect with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation’s outer ring road near Solu village. The MSRDC outer ring road has reportedly achieved around 30 per cent progress.

Authorities believe the twin ring road network will help divert heavy vehicles, reduce city traffic pressure and improve connectivity between growing suburban zones.

The latest development is being seen as an important milestone after years of delays surrounding PMRDA’s internal ring road proposal.
