A tragic incident in Pune’s Hadapsar area claimed the life of a four-and-a-half-year-old girl after an iron slide collapsed on her inside a residential society.
The accident took place on April 7 around 12:30 pm in the area. The child, identified as Anika Navnath Devikar, was playing in the society’s common play area when the iron slide suddenly fell on her head, causing severe injuries.
She was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital, where she died during treatment, police said.
Based on a complaint filed by her father, Navnath Pandurang Devikar (34), a resident of Ved Vihar Housing Society near , a case has been registered at .
In his complaint, Devikar alleged that the slide had been improperly installed and was unsafe for children. He said he had raised concerns earlier and repeatedly asked society authorities to remove it, but no action was taken.
Police said the incident appears to be a result of negligence by the society’s chairman and office bearers, who allegedly ignored prior warnings. Assistant Police Inspector Sane is investigating whether lapses in installation and maintenance led to the fatal accident.
