Pune: A 28-year-old woman, identified as Manisha Dharmadas Gaikwad, originally from Dhanegaon in Nanded and currently residing in Bijlinagar, Chinchwad, was found dead at Sinhagad Fort after being reported missing since April 28.

According to officials, her mobile phone, bag, and other personal belongings were found at Sinhagad, following which her family filed a missing person complaint at Haveli Police Station.

Under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Vaishali Patil, the Haveli Disaster Management Rescue Team launched a search operation on April 29 and continued till 2 am, but no evidence was found. The operation was then resumed the next morning.

On Thursday morning at around 10 am, the rescue operation restarted under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Vaishali Patil. Police personnel, including Assistant Police Inspector Gire and officer Pravin Takawane, joined the team to assist in the search.

After nearly an hour of searching, evidence indicating that the woman had allegedly jumped from a bastion near the Tup Khind area and died by suicide was discovered by rescuer Krishna Margale.

Following the discovery, Krishna Margale, Tanaji Bhosale, Ganesh Sapkal, Sandeep Solaskar, Narayan Jawalkar, Sanjay Chorge, Uttam Pisal, Santosh Bhagat, Telwade, Vaibhav Bhosale and other team members worked together to retrieve the body from a deep gorge and hand it over to the authorities.

Krishna Margale played a key role in leading the operation and locating the body using rappelling techniques.

Officials from the Forest Department, including Samadhan Patil and Waikar, along with the Fire Brigade, also extended crucial support during the operation. Forest staff Baliram Waikar, Sandeep Koli, security personnel Kailas Zharande, Nitin Gole, Raju Badade, Roshan Panhalkar, and fire brigade personnel Prem Sagar Rathod, Dnyaneshwar Budhwant, Tushar Pawar, Pravin Desai, Amol Yadav, Siddhant Jadhav, Ajay Sawant, and Dnyaneshwar Jadhav were part of the rescue efforts.
