Pune, May 1, 2026: A youth wing office-bearer of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing legal action after allegedly referring to Kondhwa as the “Karachi of Pakistan” in a social media video, triggering widespread outrage among residents and local activists.

According to police officials, the Kondhwa Police registered a suo motu FIR against Sarvesh Mehendale under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The section pertains to publishing content that may incite enmity between different groups.

Police stated that the video was reportedly recorded from a hospital building along a main road in Kondhwa, where Mehendale was allegedly pointing out encroachments in the area. However, the caption and remarks comparing the locality to Karachi sparked strong backlash after the video went viral online.
