Maharashtra Weather Alert For May 3: 50 kmph Winds, Heatwave and Thunderstorms Likely; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 4 Districts
Maharashtra faces a fresh weather threat with heatwave conditions and thunderstorms. IMD issues yellow alert for Vidarbha districts with winds up to 50 kmph.
Maharashtra, May 3, 2026: Maharashtra is once again facing a volatile weather pattern as heatwave conditions continue alongside a renewed threat of unseasonal rainfall and thunderstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for four districts in Vidarbha, warning of gusty winds and lightning.

After a brief dip in temperatures earlier this month, weather conditions have turned unstable again. Starting today, parts of the state are likely to witness strong winds, thunderstorm activity, and isolated rainfall, raising concerns among residents and farmers.
In the Konkan region, including Mumbai, weather is expected to remain hot and humid with no rainfall forecast. Day temperatures will range between 32°C and 35°C, while humidity levels may hover around 70–80%. Light morning haze is also likely in Mumbai.
Across central Maharashtra, including Pune, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, and Solapur, dry and hot weather will persist. Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 35°C and 40°C, with nighttime temperatures between 22°C and 28°C. Farmers in these regions are advised to take precautions to protect their crops from heat stress.
In Marathwada, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, dry weather will prevail today. However, light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely between May 4 and 5. Temperatures in the region may soar between 38°C and 42°C, with heatwave conditions expected in isolated areas.
Vidarbha is facing a dual weather threat. While temperatures have already touched 45°C in some areas, the region is now bracing for thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40–50 kmph. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal, and Wardha, warning of lightning and gusty winds.
Meanwhile, North Maharashtra, including Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Ahilyanagar, is expected to experience dry and hot weather with maximum temperatures around 40°C.
Overall, Maharashtra is likely to remain under the grip of intense heat throughout May, with intermittent spells of unseasonal weather, particularly in Vidarbha. Authorities have urged citizens to take precautions, avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours, and stay indoors during thunderstorms. People are also advised not to take shelter under trees or in open areas during lightning activity.
