Pune, May 5, 2026: Concerns over unequal enforcement of traffic rules have surfaced after Ravi Landge, the mayor of Pimpri Chinchwad, shared a photograph taken on the Mumbai – Pune Expressway Missing Link a stretch where stopping is strictly prohibited due to safety risks.

Highway police had recently warned motorists against halting on this route for selfies or photographs, citing the danger posed by vehicles traveling at speeds of 100–120 km/h. Violators were to face fines and potential criminal charges. Despite this, Landge’s post showing him at the site quickly drew public criticism, with many questioning whether authorities would take action against him.

The issue has intensified amid claims of selective enforcement. Citizens have raised questions about whether Landge received special permission or if any penalties were imposed. Similar doubts have been expressed regarding Keshav Upadhye, who had also reportedly taken photographs at the same location.

The Missing Link project, inaugurated on Maharashtra Day by leaders including Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, and Sunetra Pawar, has attracted significant public attention. Built through the Sahyadri mountains and featuring a striking 180-foot suspension bridge, the route has become a major attraction for travelers.

However, authorities have repeatedly stressed that stopping on this high-speed corridor is extremely dangerous. Despite warnings and earlier fines, some commuters continued to halt for photos, prompting stricter enforcement measures.

The controversy now centers on whether the same rules apply equally to both ordinary citizens and public figures. Many are closely watching if highway police will initiate action against those in positions of power, or if the incident will reinforce perceptions of a double standard in enforcement.
