Pune, May 6, 2026: A nine-year-old girl had a narrow escape after getting trapped in a suction hole while swimming in a society pool in Fursungi, near Hadapsar. The timely intervention of a woman present at the pool helped save the child’s life.

The incident took place at Kumar Park Infinia Society on April 21, around 6:45 pm. The girl was practicing swimming near the clubhouse when she got stuck in a suction hole at the bottom of the pool. According to reports, the hole did not have a protective safety grill, which led to the dangerous situation. Unable to resurface, the child remained trapped underwater.

A woman who was swimming at the same time sensed something unusual when her foot touched the girl. She immediately alerted the trainers, following which the child was pulled out of the pool. Emergency CPR was administered on the spot, and after multiple chest compressions, the girl regained breathing.

The girl was rushed to a hospital in critical condition as water had entered her lungs. She also sustained injuries on the left side of her body due to the suction pressure. However, doctors have confirmed that her condition has now stabilized.

Meanwhile, the girl’s father has filed a complaint at Fursungi Police Station, alleging negligence. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against the society’s office bearers including the chairman, secretary, and members as well as the contractor responsible for maintaining the swimming pool.

The complaint also claims that the suction pump was operational during the training session and that no safety net had been installed over the suction hole, leading to the life-threatening incident.
