Passengers travelling by train need not panic if a medical emergency occurs during the journey. Indian Railways has a well-established system in place to provide quick medical assistance, ensuring timely help for those in need.

During train travel, issues like dizziness, vomiting, fever, or chest pain can arise suddenly. In such situations, the first step is to inform the Train Ticket Examiner (TTE). The TTE immediately alerts the control room, which coordinates further medical support.

Once the train reaches the next station, a doctor and medical team are usually kept ready on the platform. The patient is attended immediately, and if required, the doctor may also board the train to provide initial treatment.

For minor health issues such as headaches or mild fever, basic medicines are available onboard. The train guard carries a medical kit that can offer immediate relief. Indian Railways also provides a basic dose of medicine free of cost to passengers under primary care.

In case the TTE is not nearby or urgent help is required, passengers can call the 24×7 railway helpline 139. By sharing details like train number, coach, and seat, the control room ensures that medical help is arranged at the next station.

Railway staff, including TTEs, guards, and station masters, are trained in first aid and emergency response. Additionally, railway stations maintain a list of nearby hospitals and doctors to handle emergencies efficiently.

With these facilities in place, passengers can travel with greater confidence, knowing that help is always within reach.
