Good News For Devotees! Bhimashankar Temple Darshan To Start Again, Date Expected Soon
Pune, May 7, 2026: Bhimashankar Temple, one of Maharashtra’s most prominent Jyotirlinga shrines, will reopen for devotees on May 31 after remaining closed for over three-and-a-half months due to renovation and infrastructure development works.
The temple was temporarily shut to carry out reconstruction of the main assembly hall along with several safety and crowd-management upgrades in the temple परिसर. Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi confirmed that the work has now reached the final stage and devotees will soon be allowed to resume darshan.

According to district officials, the development work is part of the Bhimashankar pilgrimage area master plan aimed at improving safety, crowd control, and facilities for the lakhs of devotees who visit the temple every year.
The temple administration had initially planned to keep the shrine closed for three months starting in January. However, due to the scale and progress of the work, the closure period was extended until May 31.
Authorities said the upgrades are also being carried out in preparation for the Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, which is expected to attract a large number of pilgrims across Maharashtra.
The ongoing redevelopment includes construction of a new grand assembly hall, demolition of the old structure, improvement of entry and exit routes, development of stepped pathways, crowd-control systems, and designated rest areas for devotees.
Officials stated that nearly 90 percent of the work has been completed using traditional architectural techniques.
With the temple set to reopen at the end of May, devotees are expected to get an opportunity to visit the Jyotirlinga shrine during the final phase of the summer vacation season.
