Pune: Woman Critically Injured After Boyfriend Slits Her Throat With Blade in Chandan Nagar
Resilience and quick thinking defined a terrifying ordeal in Pune’s Chandan Nagar area, where a 22-year-old woman survived a brutal attempt on her life. Ujaladevi Jaswant Singh Dohre, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was targeted inside her home in Patharevasti while her family members were away at work. The suspect, identified as Dilip Rathod, allegedly gained entry to the residence and used a blade to slit her throat before disappearing from the scene.
The two had previously worked together at a local shopping mall and were involved in a relationship that had reportedly become strained by frequent disputes in the days leading up to the attack.
Despite the severity of her injuries and profuse bleeding, Ujaladevi displayed incredible courage to ensure her attacker would not escape justice. She first managed to place a voice call to her brother, Bhagat Singh, alerting him that a boy had attacked her and that she was no longer able to speak.
To ensure he understood the life-threatening nature of the situation, she initiated a video call to show him her condition. This prompted her family and neighbors to rush to the house and get her to a private hospital, where she was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
The breakthrough in the investigation came directly from the victim herself, even as she remained in critical condition. When police arrived at the hospital to gather details, the injury to her throat prevented her from speaking. However, she gestured for a pen and paper and wrote down the name “Dilip Rathod” to identify her assailant.
This silent testimony allowed the Chandan Nagar Police to swiftly track down and arrest the 22-year-old suspect. While Rathod is now in custody facing charges of attempted murder, Ujaladevi remains under intensive medical supervision as she fights to recover from the trauma.
