WhatsApp Group Row Turns Violent in Pune; Woman Beaten, Confined by Neighbours
Pune, May 10: A dispute over removal from a society WhatsApp group allegedly escalated into a shocking incident of assault and wrongful confinement in Pune’s Dhanori area. A 37-year-old woman was allegedly beaten up and locked inside a house by her neighbours after she questioned them about being removed from the group.
The incident took place on May 6 at the DN Parande Park society in Dhanori. According to police, the complainant and the accused reside in the same housing society. The woman had reportedly approached her neighbour, Suraj Pandey, seeking an explanation for her removal from the society’s WhatsApp group.
Family Members Allegedly Joined Assault
Police said that after the woman questioned the accused, an argument broke out. The verbal altercation soon turned violent, with Suraj Pandey along with his wife, mother, uncle and aunt allegedly abusing and assaulting the woman.
The accused allegedly used obscene language during the confrontation and later forcibly confined the woman inside a house.
Vishrantwadi Police Rescue Woman
After receiving information about the incident, the Vishrantwadi Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued the victim.
Police officials said further investigation into the matter is underway. The incident has sparked anger among local residents, with many expressing concern over how a minor social media-related disagreement allegedly turned into a serious criminal offence.
