Pune Metro Phase 2 To Get 22 Km Of Double-Decker Flyovers Across City
The proposed Metro Phase 2 project in Pune includes nearly 22 km of integrated double-decker flyovers aimed at reducing traffic congestion while expanding the city’s metro network across key routes.
Pune is set for a major transport upgrade as Pune Metro Phase 2 proposes nearly 22 kilometres of integrated double-decker flyovers across important city corridors. The project is part of the larger Pune Metro Rail Project (PMRP) Phase 2, under which around 55 km of additional metro viaducts are planned across the city.

The proposed corridors will feature six-lane and eight-lane elevated roads integrated with metro lines, helping reduce traffic congestion while improving connectivity in rapidly growing areas.
Key stretches planned under the project include Ramwadi–Wagholi, Vanaz–Chandani Chowk, Kharadi–Khadakwasla, Nal Stop–Manikbaug and Bhairoba Nala–Akashwani on Solapur Road.
Among the major routes, the Ramwadi–Wagholi corridor on Metro Line 2B will have a nearly 4.8 km fully integrated double-decker structure. Another 6.8 km section on the same route will feature an elevated road below, constructed by MSIDC, while Maha-Metro will build the metro structure above it.
The Vanaz–Chandani Chowk stretch will also include an elevated road and a foot overbridge connecting Chandani Chowk Metro Station with the national highway foot overbridge to improve traffic flow in the busy junction area.
Officials said the proposed Kharadi–Khadakwasla and Nal Stop–Manikbaug corridors together will cover nearly 33 km, with both regular and double-decker metro alignments planned. A separate 5 km double-decker corridor between Bhairoba Nala and Akashwani on Solapur Road will include a six-lane elevated road below the metro structure.
Maha-Metro has also initiated the appointment of an Independent Proof Checking Consultant (PCC) to verify structural designs and ensure safety compliance. The consultant will review viaducts, foundations, piers, elevated roads and station structures before final approval.
According to officials, the final alignments and station configurations may still change after consultations with agencies such as PMC, PMRDA, MSIDC and NHAI.
The project is being seen as one of Pune’s biggest upcoming infrastructure developments, especially for fast-growing areas like Wagholi, Kharadi, Chandani Chowk and Solapur Road, where traffic congestion has increased sharply in recent years.
