Women allegedly brought to India with job promises; police probe illegal entry, fake IDs and trafficking links
Pune, 25 May 2026: Pune Police arrested six Bangladeshi women staying illegally in Budhwar Peth during a late-night joint raid conducted by the Faraskhana and Khadak police teams.
The operation was carried out at Sagar Building after police received information about foreign nationals living there without valid documents.
According to police officials, the women were brought to India with promises of jobs such as beauty parlour work, tailoring and domestic help. However, during questioning, police found that they were allegedly forced into prostitution after being brought to Budhwar Peth.
Police have now started investigating the larger network behind the case. Officials are trying to find out who helped the women enter India illegally, how they crossed the border and who arranged fake identity papers for them.
The action was taken under the guidance of Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishikesh Rawale, who has intensified operations against illegal immigrants after taking charge.
Police said that with this latest action, a total of 103 Bangladeshi nationals staying illegally in the Zone 1 area have been identified and action has been taken against them so far.
Officials added that the drive against illegal immigration and related crimes will continue in the coming days.
