Man Sits On Road In Protest After Pregnant Wife Gets Stuck During VIP Convoy Traffic Halt, Video Viral
Traffic on Bengaluru’s Old Airport Road was allegedly halted for nearly 30 minutes to facilitate the Governor’s convoy, triggering a massive traffic jam and sparking a debate over VIP movement and public convenience.
A major traffic disruption on Bengaluru’s Old Airport Road has triggered widespread public outrage after a man travelling with his pregnant wife staged a protest by sitting on the road, claiming they were trapped in a traffic jam caused by restrictions imposed for the Governor’s convoy.
According to reports, traffic was allegedly halted for nearly 30 minutes on Sunday to facilitate the movement of the Governor’s convoy. The situation was further worsened by ongoing underpass construction on the stretch, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded in long queues.
A video shared on social media showed the man sitting on a zebra crossing near the ISRO Junction, arguing with police officers and stating that his wife was pregnant and stuck in the gridlock. The viral post claimed: “Old Airport Road is already choking under underpass construction. Today, traffic was completely halted for nearly 30 minutes due to the Governor’s movement. A man travelling with his pregnant wife was stuck in the gridlock. When will public convenience matter as much as VIP convenience?”
The man later got up and cleared the road after discussions with traffic police and after additional police personnel arrived at the spot. The video does not confirm where the couple was headed, although social media users and unverified accounts suggested they were trying to reach a hospital.

The incident quickly reignited criticism of VIP culture and the inconvenience caused to ordinary citizens during security-related traffic restrictions. Several commuters questioned whether public welfare, especially in emergencies involving patients and pregnant women, should be affected by convoy movements.
Residents and motorists also criticised authorities for imposing restrictions on a road already under pressure from ongoing infrastructure work without ensuring adequate alternative traffic arrangements. Many expressed their frustration online, arguing that emergency situations require greater flexibility in traffic management.
Following the viral video, Bengaluru traffic police ordered an inquiry into the incident. A senior officer said an Assistant Commissioner of Police had been tasked with examining the allegations and reviewing CCTV footage from the area. However, police also maintained that there was “hardly any possibility” of vehicles being stopped for a full 30 minutes and said the matter was under verification.
The episode has once again brought attention to Bengaluru’s traffic challenges and renewed debate over balancing VIP security requirements with the needs of everyday commuters.
