Pune, June 6, 2026: The Pune Police Commissionerate has extended prohibitory orders across the city until June 22, continuing restrictions that were originally in force from May 26 to June 8.

The order was issued on Friday by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Prashant Amritkar under Sections 37(1), 37(2), and 37(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, with approval from the Joint Commissioner of Police, Pune.

Under the directive, any public meeting, assembly, rally, or procession involving five or more people will require prior permission from the Pune Police Commissioner. The restriction has been imposed as a preventive measure to maintain law and order in the city.

Police authorities stated that various political parties, social groups, and organizations may organize protests, demonstrations, morchas, dharnas, bandh calls, hunger strikes, and other agitation programmes on public issues. Officials also cited anti-encroachment drives, as well as ongoing religious and cultural events, as factors that could potentially lead to public order challenges.

The notification further prohibits speeches, publications, gestures, or circulation of content that could adversely affect public morality, public safety, state security, or encourage unlawful activities.

In addition, the order includes a specific warning against the creation and sharing of social media reels, videos, or other digital content that glorifies criminals, spreads fear among citizens, promotes criminal activities, or issues threats to the public.

Police have warned that any violation of the prohibitory orders will invite legal action under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, which prescribes penalties for disobeying lawful police directives.

The extended restrictions will remain in force across the Pune Police Commissionerate limits until June 22, unless revised or withdrawn earlier by the authorities.
