Monsoon Advances Across Maharashtra, IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 26 Districts

Mumbai: While the southwest monsoon has entered Maharashtra and begun advancing across several regions, pre-monsoon thunderstorm activity continues to intensify across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 26 districts on June 8, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next 48 hours.

According to weather officials, the monsoon has entered South Konkan from Goa and is expected to cover the entire state within the next two to three days. However, before its full advancement, several parts of Maharashtra are likely to experience turbulent weather conditions accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds.

Konkan to Witness Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

The arrival of the monsoon has significantly altered weather conditions across the Konkan region. Districts including Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds ranging between 30 and 50 kmph. The IMD has issued a warning for continued stormy weather over the next 72 hours.

Meanwhile, Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, providing some relief from humid conditions.

Yellow Alert for Pune and Other Parts of Central Maharashtra

In Central Maharashtra, thunderstorm activity remains active across Pune, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, and Kolhapur districts. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for all five districts for the next 48 hours.

Residents in these areas can expect rain accompanied by lightning, thunder, and strong winds. Local authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious, particularly during outdoor activities.

Mixed Weather Conditions in North Maharashtra

Weather conditions have once again shifted in North Maharashtra. While Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon are expected to remain largely dry, isolated showers are likely in Nashik and Ahmednagar districts.

Maximum temperatures in the region are expected to hover around 37°C, with occasional cloud cover and localized rainfall activity.

Marathwada and Vidarbha Under Rain and Thunderstorm Watch

Pre-monsoon showers continue to lash Marathwada, where all eight districts, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, are under a yellow alert for Monday. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30 to 50 kmph are expected over the next 48 hours. Despite the rain, humid conditions and temperatures up to 38°C are likely to persist.

In Vidarbha, the IMD has maintained its thunderstorm warning, forecasting rain accompanied by lightning and winds of 40 to 60 kmph over the coming days. Districts including Akola and Amravati remain under yellow alert as weather conditions continue to evolve.

Outlook for the Next 48 Hours

Although the monsoon is steadily progressing across Konkan and adjoining regions, pre-monsoon weather activity remains dominant across much of Maharashtra. Frequent lightning strikes, thunderstorms, and strong winds could pose risks to residents.

Meteorologists have advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorm activity, avoid sheltering under trees, and closely follow official weather updates as significant changes in weather patterns are expected later this week.
