Railways plans to double the train’s capacity to meet rising demand and reduce long waiting lists.

Pune , 12th June 2026: Passengers travelling between Pune and Nagpur could soon enjoy a more comfortable journey. Due to the overwhelming response to the Pune–Nagpur (Ajni) Vande Bharat Express, the Railway Department has proposed increasing the train’s coaches from 8 to 16.

The proposal has been sent to the Railway Board for approval. Once cleared, the train’s passenger capacity will double, providing more seats and easing the burden of long waiting lists.

Since its launch on August 10, 2025, the Vande Bharat Express has witnessed full occupancy, especially during festivals, holidays, and peak travel seasons. Railway officials believe the coach expansion will help accommodate the growing number of passengers.
