Late-Night Crowds Outside 24-Hour Medical Stores Raise Concerns in Pune’s Nigdi Area
Pune, June 12, 2026: Residents in Pune’s Nigdi area have raised concerns over large late-night gatherings outside 24-hour medical stores, citing noise pollution, traffic issues and public inconvenience.
Residents of Nigdi and nearby areas in Pune have raised concerns over the growing crowds of young people gathering outside 24-hour medical stores late at night. While these pharmacies are meant to provide medicines during emergencies, locals claim that some outlets have become late-night hangout spots, leading to noise and public inconvenience.

According to residents, most hotels, food stalls and eateries in the city shut down by around 11 pm or midnight. However, several medical stores operating round the clock in areas such as Nigdi, Pradhikaran, Rupinagar, Akurdi, Chinchwad and near YCM Hospital continue to attract large crowds of youngsters well past midnight.
Locals allege that apart from medicines, some stores sell ice creams, chips, chocolates, soft drinks and other food items, which draw customers during late hours. As a result, groups of youngsters often gather outside these shops, leading to loud conversations, noise and congestion in surrounding areas.
Residents have questioned whether the late-night crowds are primarily visiting these stores to purchase medicines or for other products. Some citizens have also reported traffic disruptions, noise pollution and safety concerns due to the gatherings.
While police patrols are conducted during the night, residents claim that crowd management at certain locations remains inadequate. They have urged the authorities to examine the situation and take appropriate action if necessary.
Citizens have also demanded stricter monitoring of food items being sold at medical stores, verification of necessary permissions, and enforcement of food safety regulations. They have called upon the police, food and drug administration, and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to jointly review the issue and ensure that 24-hour pharmacies continue to serve their intended purpose without causing inconvenience to local residents.
